What Makes Breckenridge Unique

Ask a Breckenridge local what they love about their town and they’ll most likely tell you about our sense of community. How fun, safe and close-knit we are here. They’ll tell you about the year-round trails and peaks we climb and ski, the rivers and the biking, the get-away-from-it-all rocky perches and the incredible sunsets and star-dusted night skies.

Breckenridge is a real mountain town with real heart. Not only does the Ten Mile Range house our world-class ski resort, it’s the backdrop for locals’ and visitors’ every day adventures and the space where we create our most valuable family memories.

Breckenridge Ski ResortTHE TOWN

We hold a substantial and proud history, beginning when gold was discovered in 1859, when Breck was dubbed “Colorado’s Kingdom” and when a group of innovators opened the Peak 8 Ski Area in 1961 and charged $4 for a lift ticket. Breckenridge is just seven miles long and two miles wide, but we pack it all in and we’re always up for a good time. Winter brings everyone together for a coveted lineup of traditions, from opening day to Ullr Fest, bottomless powder mornings to après get-togethers.

There’s a reason why Breckenridge consistently notches top spots on “Best Of” lists every year. Visitors know Breckenridge delivers that warm, welcome vibe with a side of get-after-it adrenaline, followed by opportunities to relax and catch your breath in a postcard-like snow-loaded wonderland setting.

The Lodge at BreckenridgeFREE TRANSPORTATION

There’s no need for a car here. Our public transit is stellar (and free!) and the BreckConnect gondola (also free!) links downtown to the ski resort for swift and easy access between the two. Main Street maintains that legendary Victorian meets old west feel and the one-acre BreckCreate arts district gratifies our cultural cravings. Breckenridge restaurant and shop owners keep improving and thriving, drawing us in for more with creative menus and specially curated selections.

WORLD-CLASS SKIING

The skiing—it’s indescribable. Kids ski mellow slopes with Riperoo, park lovers ride the rails and drop into the half-pipe all day, thrill-seekers tackle the hike-to terrain, families whip down Peak 7 and 8 together, everyone hits up the high alpine bowls on pow days. We take turns riding the Imperial Express—North America’s highest chairlift—to 12,840 feet so we can swoop down Whale’s Tail into our favorite pillowy stashes. These five astonishing peaks bring so much winter joy.

ENDLESS ACTIVITIES

The opportunity for off-mountain adventure is just as great, spanning spa days, fat biking, cross-county skiing, dog sledding and snowmobiling, or simply sitting by the fireplace at a locally owned coffee shop after hitting a yoga class.
