Have you ever seen the sun set behind the iconic peaks of the Ten Mile Range? We might be biased, but we think the term “Colorful Colorado” was coined from the firey sunsets that light up our mountain sky. A Breckenridge sunset is the perfect way to cap off a day of playing in the great outdoors. Wondering where to capture that Kodak moment as the sun dips behind our epic mountain skyline to create a color explosion? Look no further than the top 5 sunset spots in Breck below!
The Patio at Robbie’s Tavern
If you’re looking to get up close and personal with the action, look no further than the patio at Robbie’s Tavern slopeside at the base of Peak 8. Relax with a cold one or refreshing ice tea as you revel in the rainbow of colors painted in the sky. Stay for dinner at Robbie’s and enjoy great company while you relax with front-row views of Peak 8 and the Ten Mile Range. A dancing firepit and a boozy hot cocktail in hand will stave off the evening chill after the sun has gone to bed.
Boreas Pass
The views from Boreas Pass offer a different perspective of Breckenridge and the beginnings of Blue River towards Quandary Peak. This spot is not a classic sunset destination you can find with a simple Google search. Located up Baldy Road and then some towards the trailhead, Boreas Pass is a driveable road that eventually takes you to Como, Colorado. The pass offers a removed view from the resort area to take it all in. Bring snacks and your loved one or best friend to make the sunset experience complete. Pro tip – you can also camp up here if you so happen to bring your tent and a hammock for stargazing later.
The Lodge at Breckenridge
Panoramic log balconies don’t get any better than this. Located up Boreas Pass, The Lodge at Breckenridge is a phenomenal wedding and event venue, with birds-eye views from the breathtaking Sky View Deck. Grab a glass of wine from the Lodge’s in-house restaurant, Traverse and relax on the outdoor deck. Head back to town after the sun has set or sit down inside for a delicious meal.
Riverwalk Center & Lawn
What better spot to catch a Breckenridge sunset than smack-dab in the middle of all the action? Right on the main drag of downtown is Riverwalk Center, complete with a winding river, grass area to sit on and a playground for the kids should they need to be entertained. Riverwalk Center is a great option because of its proximity to all Breck’s shops, restaurants and bars when you’ve had your sunset fill and are ready to fill your stomach!
From Ski Hill Road
Most sunset-chasers think of the ideal sunset as the one dropping behind the iconic Ten Mile Range. Catch a different perspective looking at Baldy Mountain from the parking lot at The Overlook on Ski Hill Road. Back a truck up and sit on the tailgate or hang out on the railing for a perfect photo opp. When the sun dips below the mountains behind you, Baldy Mountain ignites in a breathtaking pink and purple alpenglow. No doubt this will be a highlight of your trip! If you pop across the street, you can catch a pretty cool angle from under the gondola!
